Huge news fellow gamers! We’re ecstatic to announce our Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers have committed to building as many as 17 GO Karts for hospitals across southeast Michigan! This collective sponsorship from our local Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers will help us provide entertainment devices to thousands of hospitalized patients in our home state!
While the majority of our work to-date has been focused on children’s hospitals, these GO Karts will be offered to an assortment of pediatric AND adult facilities in the Metro Detroit region. Our founder, Zach Wigal, had this to say on the partnership:
“We’re so grateful to work with our Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers in support of hospitalized patients and healthcare facilities throughout southeastern Michigan. Our organization is focused on improving a patient’s quality of life during treatment. We believe having access to entertainment and recreation aids the recovery process. With this commitment from our Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers, Gamers Outreach will be capable of providing GO Karts to a wide number of major hospitals throughout the Metro Detroit region. These units are sure to bring joy to thousands of patients for years to come!”
Many of our supporters are already aware of the special need for age-appropriate entertainment within children’s hospitals. As we’ve had the opportunity to learn more about healthcare environments, we’ve discovered games also have incredible potential to be a resource in adult hospitals as well. As just one example, the video below from Michigan Medicine illustrates how healthcare professionals make use of games for therapeutic purposes in our own hometown of Ann Arbor, Michigan:
Southeast Michigan has a vast number of hospitals currently unsupported by Gamers Outreach initiatives. By our count, Detroit Medical Center, Henry Ford Health System, and Beaumont Health represent nearly 21 facilities serving patients who could benefit from the entertainment and therapeutic relief video games provide.
The impact of Gamers Outreach initiatives is heavily driven by our community of supporters, and we’re thrilled to work with our Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers to make video games accessible to children and adults being treated in Michigan hospitals.
Gamers Outreach will be recognizing our Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers throughout this weekend’s Gamers for Giving fundraiser. We look forward to making an even bigger impact nationwide with the help of our community on April 28th and 29th! Hope to see you at the EMU Convocation Center, or online during the stream!
